The most recent Apple Mac operating system features a customisable dashboard into which users can add small stand-alone applications called 'Widgets'. You can get widgets for just about everything so here at Eyes-Down, we decided to build our own.
The BBC Radio 4 widget allows users to listen to Radio 4 LW, FM or World Service live without the need for a browser or 3rd party application. Users can also use the widget to listen to the last weeks most popular shows such as Today, Woman's Hour, The Archers and even The Shipping Forecast.
By January 2008, the widget had clocked up over 52,000 downloads worldwide - view on Apple website
With surfers in the team, we saw the need to use widgets to keep an eye on the surf. We developed a widget with access to 25 costal webcams in key spots around the British Isles.
Released in October 2006 this is the newest Eyes-Down widget to hit the Apple website. Since then it has had over 10,500 downloads. View on Apple website
The Radio 4 widget had now topped 50,000 downloads from the Apple website. Real are soon to release a universal release of the Real Player plugin which will allow Mac users with the Intel Core Duo chip to use the widget too.
